The very first references to plans are in the late 16th and early seventeenth generations. In 1584 and 1602 respectively, John Norden and Richard Carew referred to "targets" in Cornish hurling. Carew explained how objectives have been manufactured: "they pitch two bushes in the bottom, some 8 or ten foote asunder; and specifically from them, ten or
